The Beach Worth a Million Bucks.
When in Iceland, on your trip to Jokulsarlon (which obviously you’re going to because what is wrong with you, don’t you want to weep at the beauty of the natural world), you might be tempted to bypass a nearby natural wonder. I’m here to tell you how wrong you are.
But first, a geography lesson. Just like rivers, all glacial lagoons must lead to the sea, and across the street from Jokulsarlon is just such a place. Glaciers silently glide from the lagoon down to the most incredible beach of your life.
Meet the “Diamond Beach”. So called for obvious reasons.
The beauty of this place is actually stupid. It actively makes me angry. How did no one tell me about this before. WHAT OTHER BEAUTIFUL THINGS AM I MISSING OUT ON. TELL ME. SHARON.
The tour company I was traveling with, Extreme Iceland, had this as one of our stops on a tour to hike Skatafell, which made is an easy way to travel the south of Iceland sans automobile. If you’re renting a car, you’re sure to find the Diamond Beach. Literally next to Jokulsarlon.
